Amanda & Chris Donegal Wedding – by Pure Purple

Amanda and Chris are from the States and had a whirlwind visit to Ireland the week before their wedding with their bridal party, it sounded like they had a blast and enjoyed all the hospitality that Ireland has to offer, but they’re no strangers to Donegal as Chris’s Mummy is from Magheroarty and still visits there regularly.

I love this wedding! I can honestly say that I have never ever photographed a wedding that was so so relaxed and that’s probably due to the fact that Amanda and Chris had decided that they were going to do all the photographs before their wedding ceremony. I know, it’s not for everyone, but it worked so well and we got loads and loads of really great images (far more than I’ve chosen) . We did a first look (which is so sweet), we went to the beach, had lunch and went to the pub – twice lol!

I wish we could convince more people to do first looks, they are just so emotional (it’s ok to be emotional on your wedding day!!), a very special moment, it gives a chance for the bride and groom to have one of the few moments alone before everything begins. Depends how superstitious you are I suppose…

Hope you enjoy these 🙂

An Irish Elopement – Wedding Photography By Pure Purple Studios Co Donegal Ireland

Alex and Delaney – quite possibly the cutest couple ever. Alex and Delaney contacted us from Chicago, and had a lovely idea to “elope” to Ireland for a partially UP! themed wedding (for anyone who hasn’t seen the movie – balloons feature heavily). So, because we love doing anything out of the ordinary, we really jumped at the chance.

So the vibe for the wedding was small, intimate (Connor and I made 6), quirky, just a little bit retro and a lot of fun. We started our day at Solis Lough Eske Castle in Donegal Town, where we met Delaney and Alex for the first time in person (not counting Skype calls). Getting ready was quite a relaxed affair, probably due to being a small non traditional wedding, then Alex and Delaney wanted to do a “First Look” using the castle as a stunning backdrop, this was a first for Connor and me, but proved to be one of the most beautiful things we’ve ever witnessed, (we’d encourage everyone to do it, it gives the bride and groom a few moments together before all the madness of a wedding day), It was so emotional for both of them and made the day so real after much planning.

After taking a few photographs at the castle, Delaney and Alex wanted to go to Salthill Gardens in Mountcharles for their ceremony. Not being a couple for tradition (already being legally married at the courthouse in Chicago, and struggling to find an officiant, we suggested…) Alex’s parents conducted the ceremony, handing down advice, readings and poems, Alex and Delaney made their own promises to each other and exchanged their rings; which had made the journey from Chicago in a very special wooden box turned by Delaneys’ Grandfather. They’re so open with their feelings it just poured out into the images.

After all the tears of joy, much hugging and kissing and a few more photographs, we headed to the pier and beach just down the road for the Up! part of the day – with 40 helium filled balloons and two armchairs!

This wedding was a complete break from the norm for us and was so refreshing and beautiful to be a part of. Having seen many “first look” examples in the wedding movies we saw whilst researching wedding cinematography, we were bowled over by just how emotional it is for real.

Thank You Alex and Delaney for choosing us.
